The Watchers Knit Scarf

Eyes are a common and recurring theme in Carlos Luna’s work, reflecting both the watchful eye of government, as well as Eleggua, the Yoruba deity who observes and reports human folly and accomplishment throughout our journey between worlds. Here, Luna emphasizes that nature itself is a watcher — a universal government — that holds us accountable for our interactions with it. Worn around our neck on autumn or winter days, we are reminded of our connection to the earth and all life that springs from it.
