Eyes are a common and recurring theme in Carlos Luna’s work, reflecting both the watchful eye of government, as well as Eleggua, the Yoruba deity who observes and reports human folly and accomplishment throughout our journey between worlds. Here, Luna emphasizes that nature itself is a watcher — a universal government — that holds us accountable for our interactions with it. Emblazoned on each arm, we are reminded that everything we create for necessity, comfort and convenience, comes from this source, and that we are thus accountable for its preservation.
Featuring all natural fibers, the Watchers Knit Crop accentuates the human form cutting midway on the torso and following the curvature of the waist.
