In collaboration with Carlos Luna, the embroidered artwork on this garment is taken directly from Luna’s work entitled, Empingated, which situates anthropomorphic man in a jungle of life experiences as he struggles to face his own mortality. While death reaches out to him with an embrace ready to transition him to the next phase of existence, man (hiding a knife behind his back) hopes to slay death and live on. The concept of life and death as a cycle is represented by “La Vida” (Spanish. Life) and the inverse of “La Muerte” (Spanish. Death). The stage upon which this drama unfolds winks at the unfortunate outcome of the conflict: in the anglicized form of the Cuban explicative, “Pinga”, Luna intimates that this dynamic is “F*cked”.
This fully reversible bomber jacket featuring inner and outer pockets, allows the wearer to choose whether the message is for you alone (with the embroidery worn on the inner panel) or if it should be shared with the rest of the world (with the embroidery worn on the back panel).
